WhatsApp Testing New Voice Calling UI for iOS

Whatsapp, the world’s most popular instant messaging service, is testing a new voice calling User Interface (UI) with iOS beta testers. Previously, the capability was only available to a restricted group of Android beta testers.

iOS devices just received an update that allows users to play voice messages in the background on iPhone and iPad models. Even if they are not in the chat window, users can listen to voice messages and audio files.

On both Android and iOS, the new Voice Call Interface is very similar. This capability was previously available to Android beta testers earlier this month. In December 2021, Whatsapp was seen working on this functionality.

The new functionality is available for Android beta testers in version 2.22.5.4 and iOS Beta 22.5.0.70.

On a Whatsapp group call, the new User Interface will be visible, as well as real-time waveforms for each group participant. You’ll be able to tell who’s talking and who’s on mute once the function is activated. This capability is comparable to Microsoft Teams and other platforms.

Aside from that, Whatsapp will do audio calls using wallpapers. This feature, however, can be modified for the time being because it is not yet present in the stable version.

The new voice call UI includes audio waveforms, which were introduced lately for audio messages. Whatsapp released a new call screen UI last year that reveals if each group member is online or not. It also included joinable group calls, which allow users to join conversations in the middle of a conversation.

Whatsapp is already working on a number of new features that might be released this year. For iOS and Android, the program plans to provide iMessage-style Message reactions.

In addition, WhatsApp is also experimenting with design modifications for its Contact Info area, as well as the new camera UI, profile photo notifications, the Whatsapp community feature, and increasing the time limit for deleting sent messages, and many more things.
