Instagram Pulls Down Boomerang and Hyperlapse Apps from the app store

Instagram Removes Boomerang and Hyperlapse Apps from the app store only a week after confirming its decision to shut down its standalone IGTV app in order to focus on efforts like Reels.

Instagram removed IGTV app on February 28th. The developments signal that Instagram reduces its specific products to focus on the main Instagram app.

Both applications were last seen in stores on March 1st, according to Apptopia data provided with TechCrunch.

Instagram Removes Boomerang and Hyperlapse Apps from the app store, but why?

Boomerang and Hyperlapse were killed by Instagram for a reason.

Because company spokesperson told The Verge:

“We’ve removed support for the standalone Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps to better focus our efforts on the main app.”

Furthermore, the two applications appear to be unnecessary at the time. The functionality of Boomerang, for example, is built into Instagram’s camera, which is constantly upgraded to include new capabilities. Instagram will also continue to support Boomerang in Stories.

Though there are no Hyperlapse capabilities embedded into Instagram, the app’s use has decreased due to fast advancements in smartphone camera hardware. The decision is yet out on whether or not the business will integrate Hyperlapse’s features into the main app, so we’ll have to wait and see.

With the two apps gone, the company’s sole surviving creative effects app is Layout, which is now integrated into Instagram Stories. As a result, you don’t need the Layouts app to construct a collage on your Instagram Story.

Sum Up

The exits are also understandable in the context of IGTV’s departure. Instagram stated at the time that it wished to enhance the video experience for both artists and viewers. This current move is simply a continuation of the previous strategy: it wants to spare you from having to juggle multiple applications merely to make a video.
