Apple Introduces Always On Display Mode in iPhone 14 Pro

Apple, since its inception, has been synonymous with “innovation.” These innovations resulted in Apple creating its league. Apple doesn’t consider any company as its competitor. The only competition of Apple is Itself. This time apple introduced the Always On Display mode in the new iPhone 14 pro.

This made Apple one of the most technologically enriched companies ever. Whether changing music through iPod, mobile through iPhone, or earphones through AirPod, Apple has always held on to its Innovative image.

Apple never Introduced Always On Display mode on its mobile devices and was even heavily criticized for it. However, Apple is currently on the verge of changing its stance and is planning to include Always On Display mode in its Upcoming iPhone 14 pro.

What is an Always On Display?

Nokia initially introduced AOD on the 6303, and then Samsung popularized it. During sleep mode, a phone with AOD enabled keeps a small piece of the screen illuminated. An Always On Display shows the time, date, and battery status by default.

History OF AOD

AOD was first launched in NOKIA 6303 and was extensively embraced in 2010 with its next-generation AMOLED Symbian phones (the Nokia N8, C7, C6-01, and E7). Since then, the functionality has become more extensively available on Android handsets from Huawei, Motorola, LG, and Samsung.

Why Did Apple not Introduce AOD?

Apple has always Stayed Away from Introducing AOD. It is not because Apple was unable to do it. It was a deliberate choice by the company not to have that feature.

  • To preserve Battery Life: While always-on-display graphics are often as simple as possible to save power, there is still a perceptible drain on battery life if you use one.
  •  To keep the display from degrading: Pixel burn-in is a typical concern with OLED panels. While the “always-on” may lead you to believe there is a flaw in the feature, it isn’t.
  • Every maker has made a point of subtly shifting the visuals over time to employ different pixels. However, every form of use results in some wear and tear, and Apple may believe that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Why is Apple now Introducing Always On Display?

AOD was one of the most demanded features on the iPhone. Most of its competitors already had AOD on their Devices, but Apple was still lagging on it. But the recent sales figure of Apple may have compelled them to introduce it.

Apple initially set its production target to 240 million iPhones this year. However, the data shows they may have to reduce it to 220 million, on top of it. Always-on Display mode for iPhones could work similarly to how it works for Apple Watch Series 5 and higher.

With the always-on mode set, the frame rate of the lock screen will be reduced, allowing the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max could now save energy when the display is turned on.

Conclusion

Apple has been an industry leader for years, and iPhone has been its flagship product. But the sales are plummeting. Seeing these, Apple is trying its best to grow its sales. It has always been an innovative company and still holds the tag.

Despite it, it also wants to ensure that it not only introduces new features but also adds features available on other devices. Apple doesn’t want to be a product with more Pros than Cons; they want to be the Product with no Cons when it comes to innovation and Technology.
